Parasphendale agrionina, also known as Budwing Mantis, is an easy mantid species to keep. I haven’t had any problems raising this mantid. They are fun to keep because they are almost as aggressive as the Sphodromantis sp.
I have been keeping Budwing mantids for quite a few years and I have not noticed any problems with feeding or breeding them. They seem to do just as well with crickets as they do with flies or roaches. Breeding buding mantids is easy as long as you do not leave the male in there for too long once they are finished. The female, as with most mantid species, is larger, stronger, and hungrier than the males. She will not hesitate to make him a snack. You’ve been warned!
